After a double digit growth in November, coal production from the captive blocks in India surged 7.81% to 4.14 million tons (mt) in December 2015 compared to 3.84 mt in November 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
However, in December 2015, coal production from the captive blocks was down 34.29% from 6.30 mt recorded in the same month last year (December 2014).
Coal production from the captive mines was 52.87% of the 7.83 mt target set for the month.
Coal production from the captive blocks in India fell 37.91% to 30.83 mt in the first nine months (April-December) of the current fiscal (2015-16) compared to 49.65 mt recorded in the same period of last fiscal.
The target for coal production from captive blocks in 2015-16 is 94 mt and ICMW understands that the target would not be met as a number of mines that were auctioned at the beginning of 2015 are yet to start production.
