December 28: Coal production from the captive blocks in India surged 10.98% to 3.84 million tons (mt) in November 2015 compared to 3.46 mt in October 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
However, in November 2015, coal production from the captive blocks was down 32.16% from 5.66 mt recorded in the same month last year (November 2014).
Coal production from the captive mines was 49.04% of the 7.83 mt target set for the month.
Coal production from the captive blocks in India fell 38.94% to 26.47 mt in the first eight months (April-November) of the current fiscal (2015-16) compared to 43.35 mt recorded in the same period of last fiscal.
The target for coal production from captive blocks in 2015-16 is 94 mt and ICMW understands that the target would not be met as a number of mines that were auctioned at the beginning of 2015 are yet to start production.
