India’s captive blocks’ Oct output up 4% m-o-m

November 27: Coal production from the captive blocks in India increased 3.59% to 3.46 million tons (mt) in October 2015 compared to 3.34 mt in September 2015, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
In October 2015, coal production from the captive blocks is down 34.65% from 5.28 mt recorded in the same month last year (October 2014).
Coal production from the captive mines was 38.24% of the 7.83 mt target set for the month.
Coal production from the captive blocks in India fell 41.39% to 22.09 mt in the first seven months (April-October) of the current fiscal (2015-16) compared to 37.69 mt recorded in the same period of last fiscal.
The target for coal production from captive blocks is 2015-16 is 94 mt and ICMW understands that the target would not be met as a number of mines that were auctioned at the beginning of 2015 are yet to start production.
