India’s coal production down 32.51% m-o-m in April

May 26: India’s coal production for April 2014 plunged 32.51% to 44.12 million tons (mt) compared to 65.37 mt recorded in March 2014, mainly due to lower output by the major producers, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Production targets for the month and year, however, were not available.
On a year-on-year basis, India’s coal production in April 2014 rose 3.27% from 42.72 mt in April 2013.
In 2013-14, India’s coal production stood at 565.64 mt.
CIL’s production of 37.51 mt in April 2014, although up from the corresponding month of the previous year (35.75 mt), dropped almost 29.75% from 53.40 mt in the previous month (March 2014). However, for the first time in several months, CIL was closer to its target of 37.61 mt for the month of April.
Production of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), at 2.37 mt, was almost half of its target of 4.03 mt for the month. On a year-on-year basis too, the company’s production dropped 18.27% from 2.90 mt in April 2013, the data revealed.
The annual production target of SCCL for 2014-15 stands at 55 mt.
Production from captive blocks during the month increased almost 4% to 4.23 mt from 4.07 mt in April 2013.
The production target for the captive blocks, however, was not available.
