India’s coking coal output down 46.81% m-o-m in April

May 26: India’s coking coal production in April 2014 fell 46.81% to 4.34 million tons (mt), down from 8.16 mt produced in March, 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The production target for the month of April, 2014, however, was not available.

On a year-on-year-basis too India’s coking coal production during April 2014 increased by almost 3.76% from 4.51 mt recorded in the same month a year ago (April 2013).

In February 2014, the country’s coking coal production stood at 4.91 mt.

In 2013-14; India’s coking coal production stood at 58.22 mt.

The lower production could be attributed to a fall in output by Coal India Limited (CIL) during the month compared to March. During April, coking coal production by CIL stood at 3.73 mt compared to 7.59 mt in March 2014 and 3.75 mt in April 2013.
