27 Aug 2014
August 27: India’s coking coal production in June 2014 dropped 9.57% to 3.97 million tons (mt) against 4.39 mt produced in the same month of 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
On a month- on-month basis, coking coal production in July dropped 10.79% from 4.45 mt in June, data revealed.
Production targets for the month of July 2014, as well as that for fiscal 2014-15, however, were not available.
In the first four months of the current financial year of 2014-15, India’s coking coal production stood at 17.76 mt, slightly up from 17.60 mt recorded in the same period of the last fiscal (2013-14).
Lower production in July 2014 could be attributed to a fall in coking coal output by Coal India Limited (CIL) during the month compared to that in June 2014.
During July, CIL’s coking coal production stood at 3.54 while production of the same stood at 3.82 mt in June. In May, coking coal production by CIL was at 3.92 mt while the same was 3.73 mt in April 2014. CIL’s coking coal production in July 2013 was at 3.66 mt.
