India’s coking coal output edges down 2% m-o-m in Jun

July 31: India’s month-on-month coking coal production in June dropped slightly by 1.98% to 4.45 million tons (mt) against 4.54 mt in May, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

Production targets for the month of June 2014, as well as that for fiscal 2014-15, however, were not available.

On a year-on-year-basis, India’s coking coal production during June 2014 rose by 2.77% from 4.33 mt recorded in the same month a year ago (June 2013).

In the first three months of the current financial year of 2014-15, India’s coking coal production stood at 13.94 mt, up 5.45% from 13.22 mt recorded in the same period of the last fiscal (2013-14). 

The higher production could be attributed to an increase in output by Coal India Limited (CIL) during the month compared to that in May.

During June, Coal India’s coking coal production stood at 3.82 mt, while the same in May was at 3.92 mt and 3.73 mt in April 2014. CIL’s coking coal production in June 2013 was at 3.56 mt.
