30 Jun 2014
June 30: India’s coking coal production in May increased by 4.60% to 4.54 million tons (mt) from 4.34 recorded in April, 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The production target for the month of May, 2014, as well as that of 2014-15, however, was not available.
On a year-on-year-basis, India’s coking coal production during May 2014 increased by almost 3.65% from 4.38 mt recorded in the same month a year ago (May 2013).
In the first two months of the current financial year (2014-15), India’s coking coal production stood at 9.21 mt up from 8.89 mt in the same period of last fiscal (2013-14).
The higher production could be attributed to an increase in output by Coal India Limited (CIL) during the month compared to that of April. During May, coking coal production by CIL stood at 3.92 mt compared to 3.73 mt in April 2014 and 3.63 mt in May 2013.
