India’s imported coal stocks at 8 ports down 2.81% w-o-w

July 1: India's imported coal stocks at eight ports – seven major and one private –provisionally fell by 2.81% to 5.230 million tons (mt) as on June 27, compared to a volume of 5.381 mt recorded on June 20, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventory of imported coal stocks in ports has dropped as a result of depletion of imported coal inventories in four major ports – VO Chidambaram, New Mangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata – in the week ended June 27, compared to previous week (ended June 20), the data revealed.

The imported coal stocks at Paradip Port increased by 5.37% to 1.393 mt as on June 27, against 1.322 mt on June 20. Of the total imported coal stocks in the port as on June 27, steam coal stock stood at 0.760 mt, up from 0.68 mt on June 20, while coking coal stocks during the week under review depleted slightly to 0.63 mt from 0.64 mt in the week before.

At Mundra Port, stocks of imported coal rose nearly 15% to 1.030 mt on June 27, compared to 0.899 mt recorded on June 20. Of the total stocks as on June 27, the port’s stock of steam coal stood at 0.90 mt, up from 0.75 mt on June 20. The coking coal stock at the port, on the other hand, fell slightly to 0.130 mt, against 0.15 mt on June 20.

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata fell by nearly 23% to 0.472 mt in the last day of the current week (ended June 27), compared to 0.364 mt recorded in previous week ( ended June 20). Of the total imported coal stocks in the port as on June 27, steam coal stocks were at 0.19 mt, down from 0.20 mt recorded on June 20, while coking coal stocks at the port on June 27 stood at 0.18 mt, down from 0.28 recorded on June 20.
