India’s imported coal stocks at 8 ports down 2.52% w-o-w

July 21: India's imported coal stocks at eight ports – seven major and one private – fell 2.52% to 5.381 million tons (mt) as on July 18, 2014 against a volume of 5.520 mt recorded on July 11, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended July 18 fell slightly despite higher inventories at one major port, Paradip, and one private port, Mundra, as imported coal stocks in most of the ports declined on a week-on week basis, the data revealed. 

During the week ended July 18, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip rose 3.13% to 1.513 mt against a volume of 1.467 mt recorded on July 11. Of the total imported coal stocks at the port as on July 18, stocks of steam coal stood at 0.749 down from 0.758 mt recorded on July 11 while coking coal stocks at the port during the week under review stood at 0.764 mt up from 0.709 mt, recorded on July 11.

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port increased 4% to 1.144 mt on July 18, against a volume of 1.100 mt recorded in the week before (on July 11). Of the total coal stocks at the port on July 18, steam coal stocks stood at 1.030 mt, up from 1.000 mt in the week before while coking coal stocks at the port in the current week stood at 0.114 mt compared to 0.100 mt recorded in the week before.

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata, however, remained same at 0.360 mt on July 18 as on July 11. On July 18, the port’s steam coal inventories stood at 0.153 mt, down from 0.188 mt recorded on July 11 while coking coal stocks rose to 0.207 mt against a volume of 0.171 mt recorded in the previous week.
