India’s imported coal stocks at 8 ports down 3% w-o-w

August 4: India's imported coal stocks at eight ports – seven major and one private – fell by 3.29% to 5.276 million tons (mt) as on August 1, 2014 against a volume of 5.456 mt recorded on July 25, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended August 1, depleted owing to decline in coal stocks at two major port – Mormugao and New Mangalore and at the private port – Mundra on a week-on-week basis. At two other major ports – Mumbai and Kandla – coal stocks remained the same like that in the previous week while coal stocks in the remaining three major ports – Paradip, Kolkata and V O Chidambaranar –registered an increase on a week-on-week basis.

During the week ended August 1, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip increased by 4.35% to 1.510 mt against a volume of 1.447 mt recorded on July 25. Of the total imported coal stocks at the port as on August 1, stocks of steam coal stood at 0.695 mt, down from 0.701 mt recorded on July 25 while coking coal stocks during the week under review increased to 0.815 mt against a volume of 0.746 mt recorded in the week before.

At Mundra Port, imported coal stocks fell nearly 16% to 1.099 mt on August 1 against a volume of 1.301 mt recorded on July 25. Of the total coal stocks at the port on August 1, steam coal stocks stood at 0.934 mt, down from 1.140 mt recorded on July 25 while coking coal stocks at the port in the current week stood at 0.165 mt, up from 0.161 mt recorded in the week before.

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata increased 21.20% to 0.463 mt on August 1 against a volume of 0.382 mt recorded on July 25. On August 1, the port’s steam coal inventories stood at 0.240 mt, up from 0.206 mt recorded on July 25. Coking coal stocks of the port too increased to 0.223 mt against a volume of 0.176 mt recorded in the previous week.
