India’s imported coal stocks at 8 ports edge down w-o-w

July 15: India's imported coal stocks at eight ports – seven major and one private – fell slightly to 5.520 million tons (mt) as on July 11, 2014 against a volume of 5.549 recorded on July 4, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended July 11 fell slightly despite higher inventories at two major ports – V O Chidambaranar and Paradip, mainly on account of flat inventories of imported coal at three major ports -  Kandla, New Mangalore, Mormugao and one private port – Mundra, on a week-on week basis, data revealed.

During the week ended July 11, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip rose slightly to 1.467 mt against a volume of 1.459 mt recorded on July 4. Of the total imported coal stocks at the port as on July 11, steam coal stood at 0.758, down from 0.769 mt recorded on July 4 while coking coal during the week under review stood at 0.709 mt up from 0.690 mt recorded on July 4.

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata, however, dropped nearly 15% to 0.359 mt on July 11 against a volume of 0.424 mt recorded on July 4. On July 11, the port’s steam coal inventories remained flat at 0.188 mt compared that of July 4 while coking coal stocks dropped to 0.171 mt against a volume of 0.236 mt in the previous week.
