India’s imported coal stocks at 8 ports up 1.39% w-o-w

July 28: India's imported coal stocks at eight ports – seven major and one private –increased 1.39% to 5.456 million tons (mt) as on July 25, 2014 against a volume 5.381 mt recorded on July 18, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal in Indian ports during the week ended July 25 rose slightly mainly on the back of higher inventories in two major ports-Kolkata  and Mumbai and  one private port –Mundra on week-on week basis, data revealed. 

During the week ended July 25, imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip fell by 4.36% to 1.447 mt  against a volume of 1.513 mt recorded on July 18. Of the total imported coal stocks at the port as on July 25, stocks of steam coal stood at 0.701 mt, down from 0.749 mt recorded on July 18.

With this, steam coal stocks in Paradip Port declined for three consecutive weeks. Coking coal stocks of the port during the week under review stood at 0.746 mt against a volume of at 0.764 mt, recorded on July 18.

In Mundra Port, imported coal stocks increased nearly 14% to 1.301 mt on July 25 against a volume of 1.144 mt recorded on July 18. Of the total coal stocks in the port on July 25, steam coal stocks stood at 1.140 mt up from 1.030 mt in the week before while coking coal stocks of the port in the current week stood at 0.161 mt up from 0.114 mt recorded in the previous week.

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata increased 6.1% to 0.382 mt on July 25 against a volume of 0.360 mt recorded in the previous week. On July 25, the port’s steam coal inventories stood at 0.206 mt up from 0.153 mt recorded on July 18 while coking coal stocks of the port fell to 0.176 mt against a volume of 0.207 mt recorded in the previous week.
