India’s imported coal stocks at 9 ports down 5.11% w-o-w

November 3: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private – fell by 5.11% to 7.367 million tons  as on October 31 against a volume of 7.764 mt  as on October 24 according to provisional data available with ICMW.

The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended October 31 fell slightly after several weeks due to depletion of stocks at four major ports- New Mangalore, Mumbai, Vizag and Paradip and one private port-Mundra on a week-on week basis while coal stocks at three other major ports-Kolkata, Kandla and V O Chidambaranar remained at their previous levels 

Mormugao is the only major port where inventories increased on a week-on week basis.

During the week ended October 31 imported coal stocks at the port of Paradip recorded a negligible drop to 2.574 mt against a volume of 2.576 mt as on October 24. Of the total coal stocks at the port recorded during the week, steam coal’s share was at 1.484 mt and coking coal stood at 1.090 mt against a volume of 1.405 mt and 1.171 mt respectively.

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port dropped nearly 13 % to 0.741 mt as on October 31 compared to 0.850 mt as on October 24 data revealed.During the week under review, stocks of imported steam coal at the port stood at 0.626 mt down from 0.69 mt as on October 24 while coking coal stock of the port dropped slightly to 0.120 mt against 0.160 mt recorded last week. 

Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata as on October 31 remained at the same level from that of the previous week (ended October 24).

The coal stock position of Vizag port stood at around 0.80 million tons as on October 31 from 1 mt recorded as on October 24. As on October 31, the port’s steam coal stocks stood around 0.60 mt and the coking coal stocks of the port stood around 0.20 mt.
