India’s imported coal stocks at 9 ports edge up w-o-w

May 11: India’s imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private –increased slightly in the week ended May 8, compared to the previous week as coal stocks at Kolkata, Marmagoa and Vizag grew on a weekly basis, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

India’s imported coal stocks stood at 8.170 million tons (mt) as on May 8 against a volume of 8.124 mt on May 1.

Coal stocks at Paradip Port dropped to 2.730 mt as on May 8 against a volume of 2.945 mt as on May 1. Of the total coal stocks at the port on May 8, share of steam coal and coking coal stood at 1.344 mt and 1.386 respectively, down from 1.482 mt and 1.463 mt respectively from the May 1 levels.

Imported coal inventories at Kolkata Port continued to rise in the current week as well. As on May 8, the port’s imported coal stocks stood at 0.966 mt, up from 0.867 mt recorded on May 1. Of the total coal stocks at the port on May 8, coking coal stood at 0.212 mt, slightly down from 0.214 mt recorded on May 1 while non-coking coal stood at 0.754 mt as on May 8, up from 0.653 mt as on May 1.

At Vizag Port, imported coal stocks rose sharply to 1.800 mt against a volume of 1.555 mt recorded as on May 1. Coking coal stocks at the port rose sharply to 1.022 mt as on May 8 against a volume of 0.855 mt as on May 1 while non-coking coal stocks at the port registered a slight increase to 0.778 mt on May 8 against 0.700 mt as on May 1, data revealed.

Imported coal stocks at Mundra Port on May 8 remained at their previous level of 0.280 mt

At Marmagoa Port, as on May 8, coal stocks of JSW Steel and Adani stood at 90,701 tons and 1,800,000 tons respectively, sources told ICMW.
