September 1: India's imported coal stocks at nine ports – eight major and one private –increased 7.64% to 6.450 million tons (mt) as on August 29 against a volume of 5.992 mt recorded on August 22, 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The overall inventories of imported coal at Indian ports during the week ended August 29 increased as inventories increased at several major ports such as V O Chidambaranar, Kolkata, Paradip and Vizag and one private port –Mundra, on a week-on-week basis.
During the week ended August 29, coal stocks at the port of Paradip increased by 5.58% to 1.948 mt as on August 29 against a volume of 1.845 mt recorded on August 22. Of the total coal stocks at the port during the week steam coal stocks stood at 0.847 mt, up from 0.772 mt recorded on August 22 while coking coal stocks of the port increased to 1.101 mt against a volume of 1.073 mt in the week ended August 22.
At Mundra Port, imported coal stocks increased nearly 11% to 0.921 mt as on August 29 against a volume of 0.830 mt as on August 22. Of the total imported coal stocks at the port on August 29, steam coal stocks stood at 0.734 mt from 0.700 mt on August 22 while coking coal stocks at the port stood at 0.187 mt in the week under review from 0.130 mt recorded in the week before.
Inventories of imported coal at the port of Kolkata increased by 10% to 0.505 mt as on August 29 from 0.460 mt recorded on August 22. As on August 29, the port’s steam coal inventories stood at 0.301 mt against 0.288 mt as on August 22 while coking coal stocks at the port during the current week stood at 0.204 mt, up from 0.172 mt on August 22.
