India’s indirect tax revenue up 4.6% in Apr-Aug

September 12: India’s indirect tax revenue increased by 4.6% to Rs 194,492 crore during the first five months (April-August) of 2014-15 compared with Rs 185,881 crore during the corresponding period of 2013-14, according to provisional data released by the government.
“Overall, it is an achievement of 31.2% of the Budget Estimates for 2014-15,” an official release said.
Service tax collections during the period increased by 15.1% during the same period to Rs 61,870 crore from Rs 53.751 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year.
The collections of central excise rose marginally by 0.5% to Rs 61,415 crore from Rs 61,131 crore last year, but customs duty collections increased by only 0.3% to Rs 71,207 crore from Rs 70,999 crore.
