India’s mineral production index up 1.2% y-o-y in Jan

India’s mineral production index in January 2016 increased by 1.2% on a year-on-year basis with the total value of the output crossing Rs 20,316 crore, an official data released by Ministry of Mines said.
The index of mineral production of the mining and quarrying sector for January 2016 (new Series 2004-05=100) 2015 stood at 138.4, higher by 1.2% compared to January 2015, the data said.
The cumulative growth for the first 10 months were up 2.1% compared to the same period of the previous year, it said.
Of the total value of mineral production in January, the contribution of coal was the highest at Rs 9,076 crore (45%), while the value of petroleum (crude) was Rs 5,522 crore. The value of natural gas (utilised) stood at Rs 170 crore, iron ore at Rs 1,841 crore, lignite at Rs 593 crore and limestone Rs 533 crore.
These six minerals together contributed about 96% of the total value of mineral production in January 2016.
Production of coal in January stood at 62.9 million tons (mt), lignite at 4.3 mt, natural gas (utilised) at 2382 million cu. m., petroleum (crude) at 3.0 mt, bauxite at 1.946 mt, chromite at 0.313 mt, copper concentrate at 12,000 tons, gold at 103 kg, iron ore 14.2 mt, lead conc. 20,000 tons, manganese ore 0.194 mt, zinc conc. 90,000 tons, apatite & phosphorite at 71,000 tons, limestone at 27.1 mt, magnesite at 21,000 tons and diamond at 2,784 carat.
The production of copper conc, chromite, diamond, iron ore, lead conc., coal, magnesite, manganese ore and limestone showed positive growth in January whereas the production of apatite & phosphorite, zinc conc, gold, natural gas (utilised), bauxite, lignite and petroleum (crude) showed negative growth.
