India’s power capacity addition up 87.13% in H1

October 30: India added a total of 8,978.44 MW of power generation capacity during the first six months (April-September) of 2014-15, registering a growth of 87.12% over 4,798.00 MW added during the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to data compiled by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA),

India’s power generation capacity addition in September 2014 stood at 660 MW against 3,320 MW recorded during the previous month, according to provisional data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

With this, the total installed generation capacity of the country stood at 254,049.49 MW as on September 30, 2014 while the same was at 253,389.49 MW (revised) during the last day of the previous month, revealed the data.

In September, the capacity-addition target was 1,395 MW for the thermal sector against which the achievement was 660 MW while for the hydro sector, the target stood at 25 MW and for the nuclear sector, the target was nil. However, achievement for both the hydro and nuclear sectors was at nil, as per the CEA data.

Meanwhile, in August, the capacity-addition target was 1,233.3 MW for the thermal sector against which the achievement was 3,320 MW while for the hydro sector the target stood at 130 MW against which the achievement stood at nil. Both target and achievement for the nuclear sector stood at nil during the month, as per the CEA data.

In September 2014, the entire capacity of 660 MW was added at Tirora TPP, Ph-II, unit-3 in Maharashtra, commissioned on full load by Adani Power Ltd.

On the other hand, during August 2014, in the thermal sector, capacity was added at Alkaltara TPP, unit -2 (600 MW) in Chhatisgarh by Mahanadi Power Ltd, Raghunathpur TPP U-1, (600MW) in West Bengal by DVC, Sasan UMPP, unit-5 (660MW) in MP by Sasan Power Ltd, Damodaram Sanjeevaiah TPP unit-1 (800MW) in AP by APPDC Ltd and Nigrie TPP unit-1 (660MW) in MP by Jai Prakash Power Ventures Ltd.
