India’s power generation up 0.45% in Aug

September 22: India’s power generation in August 2014 stood at 89.89 billion units (BU), up 0.45% from 89.49 BU generated in July 2014, according to provisional data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Out of the total generation in August, 68.94 BU (56.36 BU in August, 2013) were in the thermal sector, 17.07 BU (19.42 BU in August 2013) were in hydro sector and 2.88 BU (3 BU in August 2013) while imports from Bhutan stood at 1 BU (1.03 BU in August 2013).
However, out of the total generation in July 2014, 71.97 BU (60.83 BU in July 2013) were in the thermal sector and 13.61 BU (15.89 BU in July 2013) in the hydro sector whereas generation from the nuclear sector in July was at 2.92 BU (2.76 BU in July 2013), while imports from Bhutan stood at 0.987 BU, down from 1.009 BU in July 2013.
During the first five months of 2014-15, total power generation in India stood at 445.86 BU while the same stood at 399.34 BU during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
