India’s power generation up 2.30% in 2013-14

May 20: India’s power generation in April 2014 stood at 86.59 billion units (BU), up 2.30% from 84.64 BU generated in March 2014, according to provisional data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Out of the total generation in April 2014, 74.03 BU (67.19 BU in April 2013) were in the thermal sector and 9.68 BU (8.26 BU in April 2013) in the hydro sector.
Generation from the nuclear sector in April was at 2.81 BU (2.23 BU in April 2013), while imports from Bhutan stood at 0.08 BU, down from 0.19 BU in April 2013.
However, out of the total generation in March 2014, 72.39 BU (68.8 BU in March 2013) were in the thermal sector and 9.16 BU (8.77 BU in March 2013) in the hydro sector whereas generation from the nuclear sector in March was at 3.04 BU (2.7 BU in March 2013), while imports from Bhutan stood at 0.05 BU, down from 0.06 BU in March 2013.
In 2013-14, power generation increased 6.04% to 967.15 BU as against 912.06 BU in 2012-13, the CEA data stated.
Of the total generation in 2013-14, generation from the thermal sector was at 792.48 BU (760.68 BU in FY’13), while that from the hydro-sector was at 134.85 BU (113.72 BU in FY’13).
Generation from the nuclear sector was at 34.23 BU, up from 32.87 BU in 2012-13.
Imports of power from Bhutan in 2013-14 rose to 5.59 BU from 4.79 BU in 2012-13.
