India’s power generation up 3.56% in May

June 20: India’s power generation in May 2014 stood at 89.66 billion units (BU), up 3.56% from 86.59 BU generated in April 2014, according to provisional data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).
Out of the total generation in May 2014, 74.88 BU (70.30 BU in May 2013) were in the thermal sector and 11.77 BU (11.03 BU in May 2013) in the hydro sector.
Generation from the nuclear sector in May was at 2.74 BU (2.60 BU in May 2013), while imports from Bhutan stood at 0.27 BU, down from 0.43 BU in May 2013.
However, out of the total generation in April 2014, 74.03 BU were in the thermal sector and 9.68 BU in the hydro sector. Generation from the nuclear sector in April was at 2.81 BU while imports from Bhutan stood at 0.08 BU.
During the first two months of 2014-15, total power generation of India stood at 176.81 BU while it stood at 162.22 BU during the corresponding periodof the previous fiscal.
