India’s trade deficit increases 9% y-o-y in March

May 18: : India’s trade deficit (merchandise) for the month of April 2015 provisionally increased 9% to $10,992.30 million, compared to $10,085.95 million reported in the same month a year ago, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
On a month-on-month basis, India’s trade deficit for April also narrowed from $11,793.52 million in March 2015, largely on the back of a decline in gold imports.
Exports, including re-exports, during April, 2015 were valued at $22,054.72 million (Rs 138,400.44 crore) which were 13.96% lower in dollar terms (10.55% lower in rupee terms) than the level of $25,634.08 million (Rs 154,718.60 crore) during April, 2014.
Imports during April, 2015 were valued at $33,047.02 (Rs 207,380.63 crore) which were 7.48% lower in dollar terms and 3.81% lower in rupee terms over the level of imports valued at $35,720.03 million (Rs 215,593.93 crore) in April 2014.
