India’s trade deficit up 76.16% y-o-y in Nov

December 16: India’s trade deficit (merchandise) for the month of November, 2014 provisionally rose 76.16% to $16,861.06 million, compared to $ 9,571.09 million reported in the same month a year ago, according to data released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

On a month-on-month basis, India’s trade deficit for November 2014 widened from to $13,357.46 million in October 2014.

Trade deficit for April-November, 2014-15, was estimated at $100,617.10 million which was higher than the deficit of $96,890.45 million during April-November, 2013-14.

Exports, including re-exports during November 2014, were valued at $25,960.57 million (Rs 160,187.60 crore) which was 7.27% higher in Dollar terms (5.68% higher in Rupee terms) against $24,201.83 million (Rs 151,583.34 crore) during November 2013.

Cumulative value of exports for the period April-November 2014-15 was $215,756.04 million (Rs 1,305,792.96 crore) as against $205,436.81 million (Rs 1,231,786.75 crore) registering a growth of 5.02% in Dollar terms and 6.01% in Rupee terms over the same period last year.

Imports during November 2014 were valued at $42,821.63 million (Rs 264,227.44 crore) representing a growth of 26.79% in Dollar terms and a growth of 24.91% in Rupee terms  over the level of imports valued at $ 33,772.92 million (Rs 211,529.90 crore) in November 2013.

Cumulative value of imports for the period April-November 2014-15 was $316,373.14 million (Rs 1,915,697.85 crore) as against $302,327.26 million (Rs 1,801,892.93 crore) registering a  growth of 4.65% in Dollar terms and growth of 6.32% in Rupee terms over the same period last year.
