India scrambling to import coal

With Indian coal production largely stagnating and coal stocks at power plants dwindling, Indian consumers are scrambling to import coal especially since International coal prices are weak and the Rupee is stable.
This can be witnessed by the surge of consumers registering for the 8th Indian Coal Markets Conference to be held in Kolkata from September 14-16, 2014.
Consumers from the power, cement, steel, sponge iron industry are gathering to discuss how they can get consistent supplies from Coal India and how they can secure additional supplies from imports.
