Indian Railways’ Q1 freight traffic up 10.89%

July 14: Indian Railways carried 267.88 million tons (mt) of revenue earning freight traffic during the first quarter (April-June) of 2014-15, up 10.89 mt or 4.24% against 256.79 mt actually carried during the corresponding period of 2013-14, an official release said.
During June 2014, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways stood at 87.14 mt, up 2.19 mt or 2.58% over the actual freight traffic of 84.95 mt carried during the same period last year, the release said.
The total earning of the railways on originating basis during the quarter stood at Rs 36,674.17 crore, up 9.48% as compared to Rs 33,499.59 crore earned during the same period of 2013-14.
During the period, earnings from goods stood at Rs 24,850.37core compared to Rs
23,214.60 crore earned during the same period last year, recording an increase of 7.05%.
The total approximate revenue earnings from passengers during the period stood at Rs 10,153.68 crore as compared to Rs 8,724.65 crore during the same period last year.
The approximate revenue earnings from other coaching amounted to Rs 1,011.35 crore during April-June, 2014 as compared to Rs 972.58 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 3.99%.
