Indian captive coal mines’ Oct output marginally down m-o-m

December 19: After a marginal increase in September, production from the captive blocks fell marginally in October 2013, to 3.45 million tons (mt) compared to 3.49 mt in September 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.

On a year-on-year basis too production from the captive blocks dropped by 14.36% from 4.03 mt in the same month a year ago (October 2012).

Earlier, production from the captive coal blocks rose marginally by 2.35% to 3.49 mt in September 2013, compared to 3.41 mt recorded in August 2013, after a decline by 9.35% in July and 6% in June.

During October 2013, the target for production from captive blocks was 5.42 mt.

During the first seven months (April-October) of 2013-14, total coal production from the captive coal blocks stood at 26.59 mt compared to the target of 37.95 mt and 29.64 mt produced during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
