Indian captive coal mines output decline 14.52% m-o-m in Aug

September 27: A negative trend in captive coal production continued for the third consecutive month as production from captive blocks in August 2013 fell 14.52% to 3.41 million tons (mt) compared to 3.98 mt produced in July 2013, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
Earlier, production from the captive coal blocks fell 9.35% in July after having fallen 6% in June. Production also declined 8.11% from 3.70 mt in the corresponding period of last year (August 2012) as well, data revealed.
During August 2013, the target for production from captive coal blocks was 5.42 mt.
During the first five months (April-August) of 2013-14, total coal production from captive coal blocks stood at 19.53 mt compared to a target of 27.10 mt and 22.02 mt produced during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
