Indian cement sector receives 39.46 mt coal in 2012-13

September 19: The Indian cement sector had received a total of 39.46 million tons (mt) of coal during 2012-13, up 4.97% from 37.59 mt received in 2011-12, according to a compilation by ICMW based on data received from various sources.
Out of the total receipts during the year, the cement companies had received a total of 10.26 mt through their linkages with the various subsidiaries of Coal India Limited (CIL) and Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). This figure, however, stood slightly higher at 10.72 mt in 2011-12.
On the other hand, during FY’13, the cement sector had procured 14.72 mt of imported coal as compared to 12.25 mt imported in FY’12.
In addition to this, during the year, 6.19 mt was procured from the open market mainly via e-auction while the figure stood at 7.9 mt during the previous year.
Lignite and petcoke receipts during 2012-13 stood at 0.83 mt and 7.45 mt, respectively while the figures stood at 0.56 mt and 6.17 mt, respectively during 2011-12.
