Indian ports have sufficient capacity: Minister

December 13: Indian ports have sufficient capacity to match the demand, Shipping Minister G K Vasan has said.
In a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Vasan said the handling (offloading) capacity of the Major Ports in the country is sufficient to match with the trade demands.
The capacity of all Major Ports as on March 31, 2013 was 744.91 million tons (mt) against the traffic of 545.79 mt handled in 2012-13, which is approximately 72% of the available capacity, the minister added.
