Indian power cos’ Aug coal receipts fall 8.66% m-o-m

September 18: Coal receipts by India’s power utilities stood at 38.92 million tons (mt) in August 2014, down 8.66% from 42.61 mt (revised) reported in July 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The total volume of coal received in August 2014 was also down 4.44% from 40.73 mt received in August 2013, the data revealed.
Of the total volume of coal received in August, 32.66 mt was domestic coal and 6.26 mt was imported whereas in July, 35.02 mt was domestic coal and 7.59 mt was imported, respectively.
Meanwhile, coal consumption by power utilities during August 2014 stood at 39.00 mt against 39.03 mt in August 2013.
During the first five months (April-August) of 2014-15, total coal received by the power utilities stood at 210.09 mt whereas the figure stood at 202.37 mt during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
On the other hand, coal receipts by India’s power utilities rose 7.21% during 2013-14 to 494.56 mt compared to 461.28 mt received during 2012-13 whereas consumption during 2013-14 was up 6.75% at 487.88 mt against 457.02 mt during the corresponding period of last year, data revealed.
