Indian power cos’ FY15 coal receipts up 9% y-o-y

April 13: Coal receipts by India’s power utilities stood at 538.88 million tons (mt) in 2014-15, up 8.96% compared to 494.56 mt received in 2013-14, according to provisional data of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) available with ICMW.
Receipt of domestic coal during the year stood at 447.73 mt, up 7.84% from 415.17 mt while that of imported coal stood at 91.15 mt, up 14.81% from 79.39 mt in 2013-14, the data revealed.
Consumption of coal by power utilities in 2014-15 rose by 8.36% to 528.67 mt from 487.88 mt in 2013-14.
India’s power utilities’ coal receipts in March 2015 stood at 47.350, up marginally from 46.35 mt in March 2014, but up 10.86% from 42.71 mt received in February 2015.
Of the total volume of coal received in March 2015, 30.03 mt was domestic coal and 7.32 mt was imported whereas in February, 36.57 mt was domestic coal and 6.14 mt was imported.
Meanwhile, coal consumption by power utilities during March 2015 stood at 40.98 mt against 43.90 mt in March 2014.
