Indian power cos’ Feb coal receipts drop 9% m-o-m

Total coal receipts, both indigenous and domestic, by Indian power utilities, in February 2016 stood at 46.28 million tons (mt) against 51.13 million tons (mt) in January 2016, showing a decline of 9.48% month-on-month, as per CEA data available with ICMW.
Of the total receipts during the month, 40.22 mt (44.311 mt in January 2016) comprised indigenous coal and 6.06 mt (6.824 mt in January 2016) was imported compared to 39.15 mt and 6.41 mt respectively in the corresponding month of 2015.
Receipt of coal (both indigenous and imported), by Indian power utilities during the first 11 months (April-February) of 2015-16 went up by 4.02% to 511.30 mt from 491.53 mt received during the corresponding period of 2014-15, according to the data.
Of the total receipt during the 11-month period, 436.57 mt was indigenous coal and 74.72 mt imported. The receipt of indigenous coal during the period was up 8.4% as compared to 402.680 mt received during the corresponding period of 2014-15, while imported coal receipts were down 15.90% compared to 88.85 mt seen in the same period last year.
