Indian power cos’ Feb generation dips by 3% m-o-m

Total power generation by India’s power plants in February 2016 stood at 88.696 billion units (BU) against 91.69 BU in January 2016, down 3.26% month-on-month, as per CEA data available with ICMW.
On a year-on-year basis, power generation by the plants rose 9.23% against 81.204 BU reported in February 2015.
Total power generation for the 11-month period (April-February, 2015-16) stood at 1,010.995 BU against 962.335 BU seen in the same period of the previous fiscal, showing a growth of 5.1%.
Generation of power by the coal-fired plants, were at 72.889 BU, showing a month-on-month drop of 3.43% against 75.475 BU in January 2016 while year-on-year, generation declined 6.9% against 65.111 BU in the same month in 2014-15.
Against this, generation by the hydel units were at 6.075 BU in February 2016 against 6.176 BU in January 2016, dropping 1.63% while year-on-year the drop was 5.2% against 6.826 BU the same month in 2014-15.
Generation of power by the coal-fired plants during the first 11 months of 2015-16 stood at 783.882 BU, an increase of 6.9% compared to 732.994 BU during the corresponding period of 2014-15.
Meanwhile, specific coal consumption (receipt, consumption and coal stocks, including coal from all sources) in the first 11 months of the current fiscal stood at 0.668 kg/kWh against 0.698 kg/kWh, dropping 4.29% year-on-year.
