Indian power cos’ July coal receipts fall 0.75% m-o-m

August 13: Coal receipts by India’s power utilities stood at 39.69 million tons (mt) in July 2014, down 0.75% from 39.99 mt reported in June 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The total volume of coal received in July 2014 was also down 2.55% from 40.73 mt received in July 2013, the data revealed.
Of the total volume of coal received in July, 32.45 mt was domestic coal and 7.24 mt was imported whereas in June, 32.44 mt was domestic coal and 7.55 mt was imported, respectively.
Meanwhile, coal consumption by power utilities during July 2014 stood at 42.01 mt against 39.03 mt in July 2013.
During the first four months (April-July) of 2014-15, total coal received by the power utilities stood at 176.82 mt whereas the figure stood at 161.28 mt during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
On the other hand, coal receipts by India’s power utilities rose 7.21% during 2013-14 to 494.56 mt compared to 461.28 mt received during 2012-13 whereas consumption during 2013-14 was up 6.75% at 487.88 mt against 457.02 mt during the corresponding period of last year, data revealed.
