Indian power cos’ June coal receipts fall 2.58% m-o-m

July 17: Coal receipts by India’s power utilities stood at 39.99 million tons (mt) in June 2014, down 2.58% from 41.05 mt reported in May 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The total volume of coal received in June 2014 was, however, up 0.25% from 39.89 mt received in June 2013, the data revealed.
Of the total volume of coal received in June, 32.44 mt was domestic and 7.55 mt was imported whereas in May, 33.59 mt was domestic coal and 7.46 mt was imported, respectively.
Meanwhile, coal consumption by power utilities during June 2014 stood at 46.58 mt against 38.75 mt in June 2013.
During the first three months (April-June) of 2014-15, total coal received by the power utilities stood at 126.43 mt whereas the figure stood at 123.71 mt during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
On the other hand, coal receipts by India’s power utilities rose 7.21% during 2013-14 to 494.56 mt compared to 461.28 mt received during 2012-13 whereas consumption during 2013-14 was up 6.75% at 487.88 mt against 457.02 mt reported during the corresponding period last year, data revealed.
