Indian power cos’ May coal receipts fall 0.63% m-o-m

June 13: Coal receipts by India’s power utilities stood at 41.05 million tons (mt) in May 2014, down 0.63% from 41.31 mt reported in April 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The total volume of coal received in May 2014 was, however, down 2.66% from 42.17 mt received in May 2013, the data revealed.
Of the total volume of coal received in May, 33.59 mt was domestic coal and 7.44 mt was imported whereas in April, 34.12 mt was domestic coal and 7.19 mt was imported, respectively.
Meanwhile, coal consumption by power utilities during May 2014 stood at 42.98 mt against 43.07 mt in May 2013.
During the first two months (April-May) of 2014-15, total coal received by the power utilities stood at 85.79 mt whereas the figure stood at 83.5 mt during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
On the other hand, coal receipts by India’s power utilities rose 7.21% during 2013-14 to 494.56 mt compared to 461.28 mt received during 2012-13 whereas consumption during 2013-14 was up 6.75% at 487.88 mt against 457.02 mt during the corresponding period last year, data revealed.
