Indian power cos’ Oct coal receipts up 10% m-o-m

November 19: Coal receipts by India’s power utilities stood at 45.65 million tons (mt) in October 2014, up 10.39% from 41.35 mt (revised) reported in September 2014, according to provisional data available with ICMW.
The total volume of coal received in October 2014 was also up 21.6% from 37.54 mt received in October 2013, the data revealed.
Of the total volume of coal received in October, 37.57 mt was domestic and 8.08 mt was imported whereas in September, 34.35 mt was domestic coal and 7.001 mt was imported, respectively.
Meanwhile, coal consumption by power utilities during October 2014 stood at 46.04 mt against 39.10 mt in October 2013.
During the first seven months (April-October) of 2014-15, total coal received by the power utilities stood at 299.04 mt whereas the figure stood at 277.62 mt during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
On the other hand, coal receipts by India’s power utilities rose 7.21% during 2013-14 to 494.56 mt compared to 461.28 mt received during 2012-13 whereas consumption during 2013-14 was up 6.75% at 487.88 mt against 457.02 mt during the corresponding period of last year, data revealed.
