Indian power generators to finalise deal for 16.46 mt imported coal soon

June 10: A total of three major power generators of India – Mahagenco, NTPC and Tangedco – are expected to finalise deal for a total quantity of 16.46 million tons (mt) of imported coal soon, the data available suggests.

While NTPC is expected to open the techno-commercial bid on June 12 for importing 7 mt coal on plant delivered basis for its 12 plants and another 1.25 mt for one plant on CIF port basis, Mahagenco will open the technical bids on June 23 to shortlist suppliers for 3.46 mt imported coal.

In addition, Tangedco will open the technical bids on July 4 to shortlist suppliers for 5 mt
imported coal for its plants located near Kamarajar/ Karaikal and VO Chidambaram (Tuticorin port).

Of the total quantity, the company will take delivery of 4.00 mt, plus shipping tolerance, at Kamarajar Port (Formerly Ennore Port) or Karikal Port at purchasers option and the balance 1.00 mt at VOC Port (Formerly Tuticorin port).

Mahagenco will procure the material for its Bhusawal, Khaparkheda, Chandrapur and Koradi plants.

NTPC, which has extended the bid submission date to June 12 from June 5, on the other hand  will procure 7 mt imported coal on FOR destination basis for its Simhadri, Ramagundam, Talcher, Kaniha, Farakka, Kahalgaon, Barh, Dadri, Sipat, Mouda, Rihand and Vindhyachal plants.

The power generator is also looking to procure another 1 mt imported coal on CIF port basis for Simhadri generation station.
