Indian power sector’s capacity addition at 2,716.1 MW in May

June 23: India’s power generation capacity addition in May 2014 stood at 2,716.1 MW against 135 MW recorded during the previous month, according to provisional data of the Central Electricity Authority (CEA).

With this, the total installed generation capacity of the country stood at 248,509.64 MW as on May 31, 2014 while the same was at 245,393.54 MW during the last day of the previous month, revealed the data.

In May, the capacity-addition target was 660 for the thermal sector against which the achievement was 2,586.1 MW while for the hydro sector the target stood at 68.67 MW against which the achievement stood at 130 MW. Target and achievement for the nuclear sector both stood at nil, as per the CEA data.

Meanwhile, in April, the capacity-addition target was nil for the thermal sector against which the achievement was 135 MW while for the hydro sector the target stood at 68.67 MW against which the achievement stood at nil. Target and achievement for the nuclear sector both stood at nil, as per the CEA data.

During May, in the thermal sector, capacity was added at Ramgarh CCPP, (50MW) in Rajasthan by RRVUNL, kalisindh TPP, U-1 (600 MW) in Rajasthan by RRVUNL, Derang TPP,U#1 (600 MW) in Odisha by JIPL, Dhuvaran CCPP, U#1 (376.1 MW) in Gujarat by GSECL, Sasan UMPP, 4th unit , U#1 (660 MW) in MP by SPL and Dhariwal TPP , U#2 (300 MW) in Maharashtra by Dhariwal Infrastucture Ltd.

On the other hand, in hydro sector, capacity was added at Parbati –III, U34, (130MW) in HP by NHPC.

*As reported by CEA, the capacity for 2011-12 was increased by it to 20,501.70 MW instead of 18,814.50 MW.

# CEA had earlier reported that capacity addition in May (2012-13) was 1,070 MW, but it appears that the figures have been revised to 1,130 MW.

## As per the consolidated data provided by CEA, total capacity added during April-March, 2013 stood at 20,622.80 MW although individual month’s capacity addition figure shows the total April-March figure to be 20,562.8 MW.
