Indonesia exported 158 million mt of steam and metallurgical coal in the first half of this year, up 6.8% year on year, an energy ministry official said Tuesday.
Its total coal production in the first six months of the year stood at 213 million mt, up 7.6% year on year, he said.
In June, Indonesian director general for minerals and coal R. Sukhyar said in a presentation that coal production from January to April was 147 million mt, while exports were 108 million mt. The first half rise in coal production and exports came despite a fall in international steam coal prices.
On Monday, Platts assessed the daily 90-day FOB price for Newcastle coal from Australia with a calorific value of 6,300 kcal/kg GAR at $69.30/mt, down 19% from the January 2 assessment of $85.90/mt.
