September 3: As expected, Indonesian coal prices further turned soft on September 2 in response to China's decision to impose a 3% duty on import of lignite or low calorific value coal, industry sources said.
"China's decision is likely to impact import of low calorific value coal from Indonesia and, as such, prices are expected to soften in the coming days as well," they said, adding, "Reduced imports by China may lead to availability of excess coal in the short term."
