Inner Mongolia January-August coal output down 7.5% on y-o-y

China’s coal-rich Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region saw raw coal output from its above-sized producers (annual revenue over 20 million yuan) at 598.7 million tonnes over January-August this year, falling 7.5% on year, compared with a year-on-year decline of 7.1% between January and July, showed data from local Bureau of Statistics on September 28.
Of this, output of anthracite coal rose 1.9% on year to 3.95 million tonnes during the same period; that of bituminous coal fell 7.1% on year to 359.8 million tonnes; lignite output fell 8.3% from a year ago to 235 million tonnes.
In August, the mine-mouth price of thermal coal at Inner Mongolia averaged 128.89 yuan/t, up 2.23% from July but down 10.13% on year.
Lignite prices in eastern Inner Mongolia averaged 96.29 yuan/t, falling 7.57% on month and down 10.31% on year; thermal coal prices at Ordos averaged 116 yuan/t, up 1.95% on month but down 20.91% on year.
Meanwhile, coke output from Inner Mongolian above-sized enterprises dropped 3.7% on year to 20.59 million tonnes in the first eight months, compared with a 3.9% year-on-year drop over January-July.
