JNPT creates record of double-berthing two vessels
19 Feb 2016
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) achieved a record by accommodating two vessels at a time, having the maximum combined LoA of 342.10 meters (double-berthing of vessels) on a 300-metre long BPCL jetty, according to an official release.
On February 13, 2016, with berthing of MT Ginga Panther (LoA-158.98 meters) at LB-01 (South) at 01:50 hours along with MT Atlantic Polaris (LoA-183.21 meters) which was berthed at LB-01 (North) at 03:42 hours on February 12, 2016, a record has been set for accommodating two vessels at a time, having the maximum combined LoA of 342.10 metres (double-berthing of vessels) on the 300-metre long BPCL jetty.
It was done with the help of the mooring dolphin structure, surpassing the previous maximum combined total LoA of 334.05 metres on April 24, 2015.
This achievement was attributed to the constant endeavour of the traffic and marine departments of JNPT with co-operation from the vessel master to maximise utilisation of available infrastructure, helping to reduce the pre-berthing detention of liquid cargo vessels.
