JSW Dharamtar Port capacity to touch 16 mtpa in 3 yrs

03 Sep 2014

September 3: Capacity at JSW’s Dharamtar Port is set to increase to 16 million tons per annum (mtpa) in the next two to three years, a senior official from the port told ISMW.

“We have already started the process of capacity expansion at the port. The current plan is to double the capacity in the next two to three years,” the official said.

The current capacity of the port is 8 mtpa and it has 5 operating berths with a depth of 4.5 meters.

Dharamtar, at present, is used as a captive port which handles the entire quantum of imports and part of the export requirements of JSW Steel’s plant at Dolvi in Maharashtra.

The cargo handled at JSW Dharamtar Port includes limestone, dolomite, hot briquetted iron, sponge iron, PCI coal, scrap, and iron ore lumps, fines and pellets.

Earlier, JSW Dharamtar Port was incorporated in 2012 to take over the operations and maintenance contract of the JSW Ispat Steel jetty at Dharamtar in Maharashtra.

JSW Dharamtar Port has a long-term contract for operating and maintaining JSW Steel’s jetty at Dharamtar.
