JSW Infra consortium bags Ennore terminal project
07 Jan 2016
The consortium of JSW Jaigarh Port Limited (JSWJPL) and JSW Infrastructure Limited (JSWIL) has emerged the only eligible applicant for modification of the existing iron ore terminal at Ennore Port and for handling coal for common users, port authorities said in a release.
The iron ore terminal was lying idle for the last 5 years because of an export ban on iron ore.
The consortium pipped another applicant, a consortium of South India Corporation Pvt Ltd (SICPL), Chettinad International Coal Terminal (CICT) and Marg Limited, that was also shortlisted for the work.
In July 2015, Kamarajar Port at Ennore had invited a tender to modify the terminal on design, build, finance, operate and transfer basis, for 30 years. The successful bidder will have to invest nearly ₹580 crore in the project and the coal handling capacity would be 12 million tons a year.
The existing iron ore facility at the port was being operated by SICPL.
The iron ore terminal was built in September 2006 with a handling capacity of 12 million tons annually.
