Coal imports by JSW Steel are expected to rise 15 per cent in the fiscal year to March 2014, up from 14 million tonnes purchased in the previous year, its joint managing director said on Thursday. 

 

The company would also look at bidding for iron ore that the state of Goa will auction, Seshagiri Rao said. 

 

Goa used to be India's top exporting state, with sales of more than 40 million tonnes a year mostly to China. But it has not produced or exported any ore since the Supreme Court imposed a ban 14 months ago to curb illegal mining. 

 

The court on November 12 said it would allow the auction of ore that was mined before the ban.
