22 Aug 2014
August 22: South West Port, a mechanised terminal facility in Goa set up by JSW, plans to increase its capacity by 33% to 10 million tons by the end of the current fiscal (2014-15) from the current capacity of 7.5 mt, a senior official from the port told ICMW.
The South West Port has two multipurpose cargo handling berths at Mormugao Port for handling of coal, iron ore and finished steel products of JSW Steel.
In July 2014, the port handled 0.7 million tons of coal, the official said.
The dedicated bulk cargo berths are operated by South West Port on a build, own, operate and transfer (BOOT) license agreement.
The BOOT agreement was originally awarded to the ABG Group but taken over by the JSW Group in 2002. The license from the Mormugao Port Trust is for a 30-year period.
