Jan coking coal imports via Kolkata marginally down m-o-m

February 12: Coking coal imports through the port of Kolkata edged down 2.45% to 411,952 tons in January 2014 against 402,100 tons recorded in December 2013, as per provisional information available with ICMW.

With the December figures, total imports of the material during the first 10 months through this port were at 4,473,316 tons against 3,696,829 tons registered in the corresponding months of last fiscal. For the 10-month period, imports are up 21% over the same period last fiscal.

Coking coal imports in January 2013 stood at 435,458 tons.

Total coking coal imports in the entire financial year of 2012-13 stood at 4,411,727 tons.

Following are the details of coking coal imports via Kolkata in 2012-13 and 2013-14:

In January 2014, 317,239 tons arrived from Australia in a price band of Rs 8,362 - Rs 10,959 ($134-$176) per ton, 74,713 tons from the US in a price range of 10,269 - Rs 10,676 (165-$170) per ton and the balance 20,000 from New Zealand at a unit price of Rs 10,412 ($167).

In December 2013, however, 303,491 tons were imported from Australia in a price band of Rs 8,578 - Rs 10,828 ($136-$174) per ton, 9550 tons arrived from Mozambique at a unit price of Rs 10,005 ($161), 43,013 tons arrived from New Zealand in a price band of Rs 7,441 - Rs 9,992 ($118-$160) per ton and 46,046 tons came in from the US in a range of Rs 9,774 - Rs 10,676 ($154 - $170) per ton.
