Jharkhand to work for supplying water from abandoned coal mines

Chief Minister Raghubar Das said the state government would work towards conserving and supplying water from abandoned coal mines and Coal India Ltd would assist in this endeavour. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting between Das and Union Coal Secretary Anil Swarup here, an official release said. The state government would supply conserved water through pipelines in the nearby areas and an MoU with the Coal India would be signed in this regard, it said. Keeping environmental protection in mind, Das said rail lines would be laid for transporting coal from mines to the destination. When Das asked the CIL to provide modern equipment for the sports university, Swarup said the varsity would become a model in the country. Among others, Jharia resettlement, electricity production,employment and the conditions of coal mines were discussed at the meeting, the release said. Chief Secretary Rajbala Verma, CM's Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar, Secretary Sunil Kumar Burnwal, CCL CMD Gopal Singh were present at the meeting, the release said.
